Last Game at Comiskey Park

In order to continue this website into perpetuity I will be adding a few new categories including this one called the Chicago White Sox my all-time favorite team. The video for this first about the Chicago White Sox is the last game played at Old Comiskey Park and the ceremony that followed.lights out I hope you enjoy the video.

Football at Comiskey Park

Football at Comiskey Park home of the Chicago White Sox? From 1920 to 1959 the city of Chicago had two professional football teams. The one that played at Comiskey Park were the Chicago Cardinals. Since they played at Comiskey Park they were my favorite football team. Later they moved St.Louis and then on to their present home in Arizona. Of course the best game possible was when the Chicago Cardinals played the Chicago Bears. The excitement was similar to when the Chicago White Sox play the Chicago Cubs. For me it was a sad day in 1959 when the Cardinals moved to St Louis. I will have more on the Cardinals including some video in the future.

CWS- Michael Jordan, Right Field

For a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox, this year really hard to be, I have a video for you with the Sox playing the Cubs and the starting right fielder for the Chicago White Sox, Michael Jordan.Michael Jordan Maybe they should resign him for this year?

Chicago White Sox World Series 2005

I have a video today of the Chicago White Sox 2005 postseason which is the year they won the World Series against the Houston Astros. That year in the postseason the Chicago White Sox tied a Major League record going 11 and 1 in the postseason. That tied a record held by the New York Yankees. Here is a video of the Chicago White Sox 2005 postseason.

The 1947 Chicago Cardinals

E

Do you recognize this Stadium? It was the old Comiskey Park in Chicago home of the Chicago White White Sox. AND the Chicago Cardinals. They won it all in 1947. That is when they were still playing football in the NFL on the southside of Chicago. Back in those days when the Cardinals played the Bears it was Big Time football. It was Chicago’s own Superbowl. But in 1959 the Chicago Cardinals moved to St Louis and then several years later to their final resting home in Arizona. The cry of the Cardinals was Go West Young bird. go west! By my way of thinking they should never have left Chicago. If Chicago was big enough for the White Sox and Cubs they should be big enough for the Cardinals and Bears.

Hey There, Boo and Boo

How about these two cute little bear cubs? They seem to enjoy posing for the camera while mama bear waits to maul the photographer. Always remember that mother bear isn’t far from her cubs. It makes me wonder if mama bear resides in Chicago? While I’m darning my White Sox I’ll be thinking on that.

2005 Chicago White Sox World Series and Playoffs

The Year 2005 was Monumental for the Chicago White Sox as that year they won the World Series over Houston on a sweep. Here are the highlights for that postseason Chicago White Sox. In that postseason they beat the California Angels, Boston Red Sox, and the Houston Astros in the World Series. Enjoy the highlights.

The Fog Bowl

IMG_20171117_123955 does anyone remember the infamous fog bowl of 1988? It was played on December 31st at Soldier Field between the Bears and the Eagles. I tried to find a picture from the Press Box where all you can see was a fog Bank over the field. The announcers couldn’t see anything so they had to send cameras down to the field. Darlene and I were in Chicago for a vacation and we took in this game. So we were there! Where we were seated we had a hard time seeing anything. I think Darlene likes that type of game.

Night of 100 Big Mac’s

As part of a promotional program operated by the Chicago White Sox, every time one of their players hit a home run at home, the McDonald’s Corporation would donate $100 to a local youth organization and on a night in 1978 that youth organization just happened to be the Hoffman Estates Boys Club. Chris Nolan, one of my board members, heard our name announced on air during one of the Sox home games when that big home run was hit and then she heard my name being promoted as the Executive Director.

The next day a courier came to our club with the McDonald’s check and we used that $100 to purchase 100 Big Mac’s. Of course that was during a time when those hamburgers were just under a buck. I remember going into our local McDonald’s that evening and asking for 100 Big Mac’s to go and giving one of their employees the shock of his life.

He gulped saying, “You’ll have to wait for a bit“, and began preparing our order. Needless to say there was a major McDonald’s celebration at our club that evening. Our Torch Club sent a thank you note both to McDonald’s and to the Chicago White Sox for their promotion. You know, there’s just something about that Big Mac sauce that keeps you coming back for more!

You Can Put it on the Board YES!!

Major League Baseball spring training starts in about a month but it’ll be far different this year for the Chicago White Sox. Last year Ken Harrelson retired from announcing and that signature call of his will be heard no more. He was a great announcer for the Chicago White Sox and I for one will miss him. He’ll be watching though from his home in Indiana. And here’s some memorable moments from the hawk. You can put it on the board YES!!
