My Aunt Beth was once a member of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and after her retirement she told me of one of her most dangerous assignments. She was in Russia and her assignment was a “drop” person. She dropped her material where she was supposed to and for almost three blocks thereafter she thought she was being followed. Had that happened most likely she would have been executed.

She spoke many languages fluently and spent a great deal of time in Viet Nam. When I was just a kid we often speculated about what she did for a living but in those days she was very hush-hush about her occupation. Even later in life she spent about two weeks in Washington DC every year and I felt it was checking in with her agency for whatever reasons.

Not a bad occupation for one that came from a simple beginning on our farm on Big Bass Lake.
