With a lot of the trees now in full color around Big Bass Lake, rowboating at this time seems just right. Pick a time around mid day and enjoy your gentle strokes without having to worry about a speed boat ruining your day with high wakes. My usual routine would be to row down to our wooded beachfront and then take a swing around the Haunted Island. Then I would go under the Big Bass Lake bridge to the Big Island and head for the Big Bass Lake store.
There I would enjoy a bottle of Squirt which seemed ever so refreshing. I would then head back to our dock by going back under the bridge and then a straight away to our dock on the southwest side of the lake. Yet on the way back, I would prefer going in closer to shore to take in all the color. It was a little longer that way but more enjoyable. The only wake on the lake would be that of my own.
In a few short weeks even rowboating would not be too fun on the lake. But then there’s always next Spring and anytime before Memorial Day to enjoy Big Bass Lake. At least by a rowboat.
