The Georgeous Sauble River Outlet

Talk about a picture saying a thousand words! This belongs on a portrait somewhere! Just take in the beautiful colors on a perfect evening. This is one of my favorite places to visit regardless of the time of day. This is what one would behold atop the M-116 bridge just before entering the Hamlin Dam campsite.

This is where the warmer waters of the Sauble River join with the much colder waters of Lake Michigan. I could just stare into a view like this all day. Examine the crystal clear image of the Sauble River with nary a fish even making a solitary ripple.

The sky in the distance puts a punctuation mark on this picture. The glorious mixture of the colors and the resulting reflections are wonderful. Moments like this should never end.

A Subdued Sunset

Well, I’m back at one of my favorite photo opportunities that being the Sauble River Outlet into Lake Michigan. In this picture I adore the subtle hues in the sky that reflect off the water.  They almost want to lull you into slumberland.  On this day the air is so still you could almost cut it with a knife.

I waded into the outlet near where it merges with Lake Michigan today and the warm waters of the outlet totally relaxed me.  Being shallow they take in the warmth of the sun far better than it ever does in Lake Michigan.

How many of you have shared this wonderful outlet or even allowed your children to wade its waters?  It’s just one of my favorite places to be in all of Michigan.

The Serene Sauble River

I think that next to the Ludington Lighthouse and Breakwater, this is the second most photographed scene in the area.  Someday I want to get a picture of this river when the water is high as it meets the churning waters of Lake Michigan in a storm.  Which side would win out?  The turbulent waves of Lake Michigan or the flowing waters of the Sauble River each going in opposite directions?

Of course, there would be an element of danger in getting such a picture as that unless I use my lens from the bridge over M-116.  Until then scenes like this are much easier to capture and without the danger.  Yet what a tug of war between two opposing forces that would be!  It really gets the adrenaline going.

The Serene Sauble River

Next to the Ludington Lighthouse, this has to be the second most photographed scene in the entire area. I like it because it showcases the warmer waters of the Sauble River about to merge with the much colder waters of Lake Michigan in such a peaceful setting. Some of the sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular even in the coldness o winter.

An artist could sit just past the Hamlin Bridge and sketch these kinds of scenes for the rest of their life. Now and then children frolic in the water or you can some bird or animal taking a quick drink here. For my husband this is the end location for many of his runs and where we can meet. I usually drop him off about two or three miles toward Ludington and then head back here just to gaze or sketch.

I just wonder what amazing artwork will come from this locale next?

New Bridge over Sauble River

Well, there’s a new foot bridge over Sauble River near the Hamlin Dam. I kind of like this new one as I am a tad sqeamish going over th one actually over that dam. As I said in an earlier post, I “was” at one time fearful of that Hamlin Dam narrow bridge but later conquered that fear. Still, having this bridge, slightly downstream, makes me feel even better crossing over to that other side.

This bridge is between the Hamlin Dam bridge and the M -116 bridge over Sauble River. It provides one with a good look at the Hamlin Dam itself. It makes me not desire to walk over that actual Hamlin Dam bridge of troubled waters just below.

I wonder who came up with that novel idea?

Sauble River Outlet

This is a double look at the Sauble River Outlet near the Hamlin Dam State Park. In fact the bridge that crosses Sauble River on M-116 exits into the park. At this outlet you can experience wading in just prior to Lake Michigan and feel the warmer waters as they merge into the cold water of Lake Michigan.

A lot of tourists choose to swim at this location to expereince both warm and cold water swimming. I personally have taken some great pictures off the bridge on M 116 down this outlet toward Lake Michigan. On the other side you can barely make out Hamlin Dam.

How do you like the aerial overview of the area? It provides you with a glimpse of the Hamlin Dam area as well. Any other observations of this area?
