Helen Herrmann’s grandson, Rick, spent some time with me in the early 1980′s both swimming and hiking around Big Bass Lake. One of favorite short hikes was to get the mail and the route back from our mailbox began just about here. From Big Bass Lake Road, we had to walk through some tall grass to get to this point overlooking both Big Bass Lake and our farm field.

This photograph is facing the farm field through the trees.  It was a great spot to sit and take in either view.  It was out of the hot sun under a canopy of trees with a light wind off the lake to refresh us.  After a few minutes sitting we were ready to follow the lake trail to our boat dock with mail in hand.

We could always view frogs on lily pads along this trail that took us quite close to the lake.  We had to watch our footing due to a lot of roots from the trees that were spread out along the ground.  All in all it was a good hike with conversation.  After the mail delivery we usually took our boat down to our wooded beachfront for a swim.

This view (above) was one of my favorite locations on our property.
